Rent titanium er et sølv-hvidt metal, der har mange fremragende egenskaber. Densiteten af titanium er 4,54 g/cm3, hvilket er 43 % lettere end stål, og lidt tungere end det prestigefyldte letmetal magnesium. Mekanisk styrke svarer til stål, dobbelt så stor som aluminium, fem gange større end magnesium. Titanium er modstandsdygtigt over for høje temperaturer, smeltepunkt 1942K, næsten 1000K højere end guld, næsten 500K højere end stål.
